As you may have read in this space before, I’m hosting an event this Sunday we’re calling Poetry Slam Garden Party. It has come to my attention that the event I’m hosting is not in fact a slam.
A slam, it turns out, isn’t just a group of extremely talented (and attractive) poets doing what they do best. A traditional slam apparently is a competition where poets perform before a live audience and a panel of judges.
Our “slam” has poets and a live audience but no competition and no judges.1 A simple google search would have made me aware that this was unusual. But that’s how we learn. 😊
So, slam or no slam, judges or no judges, I hope you’ll join us in our fair town of Exeter on Sunday, July 20 from 2-4pm.
❤️
Adam
No official judges, that is. Attendees will be free to silently judge to their heart’s content.
Sounds like my kind of slam!
