My weird uncle brain
...brings out the worst dad instincts.
No live show today. My amazing regular guest KJ Nasrul, MFT aka Kimberly Jane Nasrul and I each had changes to our schedules that prevented us from jumping on a live chat today.
Instead, here’s a little something about one of my nephews. 🙂
I pride myself on actually having a sense of humor… But for some reason, when my nephew is in the vicinity, I lose all skills.
I’m lucky enough to be an uncle to four fabulous kiddos. My sister is responsible for three of them and they live about 90 minutes away. We don’t see them nearly as much as I’d like.
The one remaining kiddo is my nine-year-old nephew who lives five doors down from us at my sister-in-law‘s place. I see him more than the others, and my interactions with him have revealed to me that when I’m around him, I come down with a syndrome that might be familiar to other uncles – uncle brain.
I don’t know why it is, but I turn into a living, breathing, walking Dad joke. Anything he does, anything he says, my reaction is always some quip that would make even the biggest frat bro cringe. I pride myself on actually having a sense of humor, conveniently inherited from my mom. I can make people laugh. But for some reason, when my nephew is in the vicinity, I lose all skills.
And I call him “dude.” I don’t call anybody “dude.” Let’s all be grateful that I don’t call him “bruh.”
