Finding my joy
Inspired by yesterday's lunch chat
My guest on yesterday’s bonus live show— Julie Voris — has dedicated her public life to helping others find and participate in joy.
We had a lovely chat and it’s inspired me to cobble together a rough, no real order list of how I find joy, at least right now.
I find joy in conversations with people I would probably never have met.
Yesterday was a textbook example. Julie is someone I would have likely not come across in my daily life. Nor Jennifer Gasoi. Nor Allegra Chapman (she/her). All amazing people from all across the globe. Who took a half-hour out of their lives to share their joy with me and all of you.
I find joy in to-do lists.
Or, as my bestie-from-the-West-Coast Kimberly Jane Nasrul calls them, to-done lists:
I’ve actually managed to maintain a streak of almost seven straight days of to-dos, which may be a record for me. And, miraculously, the streak has brought more joy, more confidence, more swagger to each day I make lists.
I find joy in memories of family and friends no longer walking the earth.
This letter, by my paternal grandfather, is one of dozens I have where he pours out his heart to the one who was his greatest joy, my grandmother. And he was hers.
This letter is why I want someone to invent a time machine. What I wouldn’t give to walk down a Philadelphia street in the ‘40s with them in their prime.
I find joy in the hopes and dreams of what’s to come.
On days like today, the horizon seems a little brighter, a little fuller with possibility. The people, the experiences, the love, the joy still to come.
Thank you, all, for being a joy to write for, to hear from, to be with. Let’s do it again.
❤️
Adam
